Ukrainian ground robot with AI completed logistics mission on Kharkiv front

A Ukrainian ground robot with artificial intelligence completed a logistics mission under combat conditions on the Kharkiv front, autonomously covering 93% of a 20-kilometre route. The operator intervened only on a 1.4-kilometre section. The system was developed by Apex AI with the participation of the “Lava” unmanned systems regiment.

Pagrindiniai faktai

  • The robot autonomously covered 93% of a 20-kilometre route on the Kharkiv front.
  • The operator intervened only on a 1.4-kilometre section.
  • The combat trial was announced by the “Lava” unmanned systems regiment of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard’s “Khartiia” on 28 October.
  • A lidar scanner creates a three-dimensional route model, while cameras and AI detect roads, verges and obstacles in real time.
  • Apex AI develops the autonomous-control software, and the “Lava” regiment helped formulate technical requirements and conduct field tests.
  • Casualty evacuation is planned as the next application of the technology.

Kodėl tai svarbu

The test demonstrated that an AI-enabled ground robot can navigate most of a long route under combat conditions with minimal operator intervention. The technology could reduce the burden of continuous manual control, eventually allow one operator to coordinate several robots, and support casualty evacuation missions when communications are unstable.

Kas nutiko

The unmanned systems regiment “Lava” of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard’s “Khartiia” conducted an autonomous logistics mission involving the Apex.AI ground robotic complex on the Kharkiv front. The robot travelled a 20-kilometre route, moving autonomously over 93% of the distance; the operator took control only on a 1.4-kilometre section. A specialised vehicle first scans the terrain with lidar to create a three-dimensional model. The main machine then follows that model, using real-time camera recognition and AI analysis to navigate roads, verges and obstacles. The operator can adjust the route and speed on individual sections without manually controlling the machine throughout the mission.

Kaip apie tai rašo Ukrainos šaltiniai

Ukrainian reporting highlights the successful first combat test and the high proportion of the route completed autonomously. The technology is presented as approaching practical military use, with casualty evacuation identified as a particularly important future application.

Kontekstas

The Apex.AI ground robotic complex was developed as a logistics platform. Before the mission, a specialised vehicle scans the terrain and uses lidar to create a three-dimensional route model. During autonomous movement, the main vehicle’s cameras identify roads, verges and obstacles in real time, while the AI analyses the situation and makes movement decisions. The same unit recently participated in the underground counter-offensive operation “Veles” on the Kupyansk direction, synchronising its actions with a brigade that attacked Russian forces with aerial drones.
